The Rockin' W Story

At Rockin' W BBQ, barbecue is more than just food—it's family, community, and passion. Founded by husband-and-wife team Charles and Sylvia Ward, Rockin' W BBQ is a family-based company rooted in the heart of Joplin, MO, serving the Four States area with authentic Kansas City-style barbecue. Our journey began in 2012 when we bought our first smoker, inspired by a life-changing experience with Operation BBQ Relief after the devastating Joplin tornado.

Charles, a lifelong home builder, discovered his love for barbecuing while volunteering to serve meals to those in need during the relief efforts. Reflecting on that time, he says: "I came to discover a love of barbecuing for people when I volunteered for Barbecue Relief." That passion grew into Rockin' W BBQ, where we've been proudly serving our community ever since.

We smoke all of our meats using 100% wood—pecan and white oak—to create rich, bold flavors that reflect our dedication to quality. Over the years, we've catered for organizations like the NRA Foundation, Reddings Mill Fire Department, Joplin Police Department, Wild Turkey Federation, BrandKamp, O'Reilly Automotive, Primitive Adventures with Carl Junction School District and SMB Bank. Our commitment to full community involvement is at the core of everything we do.

As participants in Kansas City Barbecue Society American Royal  (KCBS) competitions, we bring the same award-winning techniques to every event we cater. Whether a small gathering or a large celebration, Rockin' W BBQ is here to make your event Smokin' Good!
